Ben's and Teaching For Change

DC Bocce donated $1,100 to Teaching for Change on behalf of the Ben's Chili Bowl Bocce team for their success during the 2009 seasons. Many thanks to team members Jonathan Zackey, DJ Saul, Jim Haggerty, Ben Detofsky, Jack Gaynor and Tim Naylor who chose Teaching for Change to receive their Final Four Capitol Hill Tuesday Division winnings. This is the third season that the team has selected Teaching for Change -- may the team continue to be successful. Photos from the event can be found on the DC Bocce League Facebook page. The celebration was held at Ben's Next Door where the team received its trophy and Teaching for Change received the donation.

One Warm Coat Drive

Thanks to all the Playoff teams that came out for the finals weeks of the Fall season. And a special thanks to everyone who donated a coat during the opening rounds for the One Warm Coat Drive, put on by Serve DC. We rounded up a few bags worth of winter coats as DC Bocce's contribution to the effort. Serve DC would like to thank everyone who donated to the One Warm Coat Drive. More than 400 coats for men, women and children were collected for the DC Coalition for the Homeless.

WWII Honor Flight Volunteers

Our Week 1 Honor Flight Volunteer recruitment contest was a big success. We extended the sign up deadline an additional month since many League members expressed interest in recruiting co-workers, friends and family to greet WWII veterans as they arrive in Washington, DC. As a League we pulled together over 2 dozen participants with the American Legion's help. Thanks to all who signed up and congratulations to the winning team, Ciao-balla, for recruiting the most volunteers. Enjoy the $50 Pour House gift certificate!
