Irish Road Bowling League this Saturday starting at 1:30pm for their inaugural Pack Horse Ford Cannonball Run Irish Road Bowling Competition! Play takes place on on Route 230 at Trough Road, two miles south of Shepherdstown, West Virginia. Union and Confederate troops fought along the road in the
Battle of Shepherdstown (September 20, 1862) and a
cash prize of $25 will be awarded to the road bowler with the best Civil War costume...if you wish to dress up that is. Admission to the tournament is
FREE and all you need is a team of 2, 3 or 4 to compete. The sport is easy to learn--it's your
basic bocce rules only with a greater distance and on pavement, so shots can go up to 200 yards. Prizes and trophies will be awarded and all are welcome!
Directions from DC (80 minute drive)- North on I-270 to Frederick, MD
- West on Route 340 past Harpers Ferry, WV
- North on Route 230 until Trough Road
- Right turn to Start Line/Parking
