Holiday Cheer

Staying in DC over the holidays? Looking for an opportunity to give back to the community?

A few of us will be participating in Holiday Project this Saturday from 11am to 1pm.

The Holiday Project is a non-profit organization whose volunteers visit people in nursing homes and hospitals throughout the holiday season, and on other holidays during the year. Many of the people we visit have no other visitors during the holidays, so spending time with them is a special treat and a way to share the true spirit of the season.

We will be visiting Manor Care (located at: 6530 Democracy Blvd) The Holiday Project provides volunteers with small gifts (teddy bears) to hand out to residents. Also we will be singing Holiday carols to residents in the community areas at Manor Care and we'll also go in groups to visit residents in their rooms.

If you would like to join us, send is a message on our Facebook Wall.

If you would like to participate at a different location, their are plenty of visits scheduled in the area. Many other local charities are "booked" for this holiday season, the Holiday Project has space open and is need of volunteers. If you are around this weekend, consider helping out.

Here's a recent video featured on NBC 4 about the organization!

Bar Crawl to End Fall - Saturday 12/18

Your bocce and skee friends are partaking in an annual holiday bar crawl dubbed Santa Crawl 2010. We enjoyed it last year and we invite you all to come on this new adventure next Saturday, December 18th, as we booze through the neighborhood of Columbia Heights hopping from bar to bar, enjoying the camaraderie and inebriation that will follow.

We'll be joining the crawl at 5:00pm where we'll kick off the drinks with a holiday Jack-o-bite at CommonWealth Gastropub, followed by The Heights, Meridian Pint, and ending at crowd favorite Wonderland sometime after 10pm. The party goes all night with the only stipulation being that you wear your drinking shoes, your DC Bocce or District Skee shirt (AKA your drinking shirt), and a Santa hat, antlers, or some festive attire (see photo evidence below).

Santa Crawl
Saturday, Dec. 18, 5pm-late
Bars of Columbia Heights

So come one, come all, as we swill the best brews of the holiday and sample any and all festive cocktails while sauntering from block to block. We have no idea what to expect and giveaways are entirely possible...tell your friends, your family, your pets (depending on the bar). We look forward to seeing you all for the celebration!

Celebrate the Repeal of Prohibition with Batch 19!

Do you remember the time when alcohol was illegal in this county? Yeah, thank god we never had to live through that $hit. Let's celebrate that!

This Saturday, 12/4 marks the 77th anniversary of Repeal Day, the day the United States repealed the Eighteenth Amendment and gave Americans the constitutional ability to consume alcohol. And Batch 19 is throwing a big party at We the Pizza, Pour House, and 18th Amendment on Capitol Hill to commemorate the repeal.

Along with beer specials and free pizza, there will be a celebrity guest appearance by Paul Sparks, who plays Mickey Dole in HBO's Boardwalk Empire. There will also be a vintage Rolls Royce display, plus Batch 19 will be giving away t-shirts and 64 oz. glass growlers. The schedule for Saturday is as follows:
