I ain't afraid to admit it: I love Coors Light. The Silver Bullet and I have been best of friends for a long time and it always makes me happy every time I see it on tap around town.

Which is why I'm super excited to head to the Front Page in Arlington tomorrow night for $2.50 Coors Light drafts! Front Page is hosting a special Caps on Tap Viewing Party, kicking off at 7:00 pm. In addition to watching the Caps v. Predators game, you'll get a chance to win great prizes, including Caps tickets. And apparently a few members of the Red Rockets will be making an appearance.

Bocce-ers, here's another reason to start the weekend early (as if we needed it!)--

Local 16 is hosting an Oktoberfest Pig Roast Festival this Thursday, October 13, from 6pm-10pm!!

Side note: we all know the weekend actually starts Thursday at happy hour….this inevitably has led to some pretty miserable Friday mornings (metro ride of shame anyone?), but by Friday night we’re off and running again (or we indulge in a little hair-of-the-dog Friday morning and it’s business as usual—no judgment here!).

This open-invitation ($10 suggested donation) event includes complimentary Leinie’s Oktoberfest and other Leinie’s Beer Varieties, live entertainment, and a PIG, roasted to perfection (with a variety of sides for those non-carnivorous types)! Oh yeah, and Dick Leinenkugel himself will be attending --practically a guaranteed celeb-sighting (so my definition of "celebrity" is somewhat flexible ---it's not like you're brewing delicious beers, are you?)

As B-Ballers, it is our sworn duty to support our local bars and partake of free beer—or really, any beer—when offered (ok, so that particular declaration was scrapped from the registration waiver you signed but didn’t read—but if we could’ve legally included it, we would have…..stupid laws/lawyers/legalese mumbo jumbo).

Happy holiday weekend fellow bocce-rs! Hope everyone is using the long weekend to seriously hone their bocce skills for more playoff action....by "bocce skills" I clearly mean drinking skills!! (so lame you thought I meant legit ball-tossing skills)

The entire league is invited to Dupont division sponsor McFadden's Grand Re-Opening Party on Thursday 9/8 which includes an open bar from 8-9!!! Come put your flip-cup fingers and creepster skills to work! (McFadden's is an undergrad Mecca... but you know what they say: if there's grass on the field....) As a Dupont baller myself, I can tell you that a night at McFadden's practically ensures an awesomely sketchtastic story to share with friends or appall co-workers the next day! ---Maybe that was just my team: JTT, motto: We may not win at bocce, but we win at LIFE!--

It's Flair Week - "Like" It To Win It!

It's the start of Week 5 of the summer bocce season and already Flair Week is upon us. Several divisions have flair themes, others are a free-for-all. Thankfully, I play in Dupont, which is theme-less. A themed flair can sometimes be too limiting... restricts you from being super dirty with your flair.

For instance, my team, Just the Tip, was blessed with the mustard brown t-shirt color. It is god-awful--I refer to it as doo doo brown (but with more curse words, which got edited). There really is no other flair for us to do except for something inappropriate and dirty. 80's night does not make a great theme for a poo brown team named after one of my most favorite ~~games~~ Vince Vaughn quotes. I would love to share with you my--let me be accurate here--totes inappropes flair for this season, but I might lose my posting privileges. However, I can tell you it is named after a former Senator from Pennsylvania, who likes to go by Rick.

But I suppose the argument goes both ways... sometimes you just need to narrow things down with a theme and rock a side pony tail and Miami Vice suit!

Either way you break it out, Flair Week is only partially about dressing up like an a-hole. The other part is to win $hit! The winning teams will be awarded gift certificates to their sponsor bars the night of play. BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE! The top three winners from each division have been compiled into a Facebook album, and everyone can VOTE for their favorite team "Liking" their favorite photo! The album is now live and voting ends at noon on Wednesday, 9/7. The team photo with the most Likes will get a $200 gift certificate to new DC hot spot, Graffiato.

So whether your flair is naughty or nice, 80's or beach-themed, in the end, we all end up winners. Especially that guy with the Google problem.

The Return of.... BOCCE WEEK!

Join your Black Shirts, friends and fellow bocce-ers for a week long bocce-a-thon the week of August 22-25 for Bocce Week!

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to go to a different bocce division every day of the week (and maybe have a drink or two if you're so inclined). This is a great way to explore all your DC Bocce options and meet some new people.

Here are all the available bocce divisions for the week:

Monday night = Vinoteca
Tuesday night = Capitol Hill, Columbia Heights or Arlington
Wednesday night = Capitol Hill or Adams Morgan

Beer Pen at the Ballpark

The boys of summer are in full swing and so is DC Bocce. That means it is again time for our seasonal Night At The Ballpark! A lucky team in each division will win 4 tickets to the Nationals vs. Phillies game on Friday, August 19, and this time it includes a trip to the famed Beer Pen. That means free beer for the lucky winners--it might just be heaven!!! All ticket winners must sport their beloved DC Bocce shirt to the game (it's the secret handshake for Beer Pen entry).

We welcome all bocce players to attend! Your dedicated black shirts will be there giving out beer bucks to bocce ballers wearing their team shirt at the game. National Bocce Day Tournament at Vinoteca

DC Bocce's Premier League and Vinoteca will be putting on a small bocce tournament this Saturday, August 13, as part of the first National Bocce Day! It will be a casual tournament with 8 teams, single elimination, running from 2:00pm - 6:00pm. Small prizes will be awarded to the winners, and Peroni will be on special for $4 along with some selections from the grill. Teams should consist of 4-6 people. Interested? Seriously - what is tubing all about if not to sit in an inner tube with your favorite beverages (oh and friends) floating by your side?

Come tubing with us on Saturday, August 13th and we'll transport you and your friends out to Harper's Ferry, WV for a day of lazy river tubing down the Shenandoah. No need to worry about a designated driver---we've got a coach bus to take us back and forth from DC to the boondocks.

Trip includes:

Round-trip transportation from DC to Harper's Ferry
Tube rental
Transportation to and from the tube outfitter to the river drop off and pick up points
Hours of lazy river floating
Post-tubing happy hour at the Pour House!

Also - you have the option of renting a cooler tube so you can float your drinks and snacks by your side. So grab your sunscreen, bathing suit, and towel - let's put our butts in a tube and party!

DC Bocce wants to highlight a profile of a real life bocce merger. Karen and Doug of Keefer Sharkerlands Bocce Predators met playing bocce on the Hill 3 years ago, and are expecting their first child due in October. Naming the child Bocce is still up for debate! Without further ado...

How did you meet?
K&D: We were the first two people from our team to arrive at Garfield Park on the first day of the 2008 summer bocce season. We had mutual friends on the team.

What was your bocce team name at the time?
K&D: Erin Go Bocce (although we changed our name during the season to Bad at Laundry).

What was your bocce t-shirt color at the time?
K&D: Light pink (hence the team name change; picture the reds getting mixed with the whites in the wash!)

What was your first date outside of bocce?
K&D: Doug accepted Karen's "Top Chef-like" challenge by cooking her a three-course meal at his apartment.

When did you know you were meant to be?
K&D: A couple of days after meeting, we went on separate vacations and couldn't stop thinking about each other.

When did you get married?
K&D: October 9, 2010

What are your suggestions for bocce players trying to find love?
K&D: Buy lots of pitchers at Pour House*

Bocce Week is HERE

Did you know that its officially Bocce Week? Well, every week is bocce week for me, as it literally consumes my ENTIRE life (albeit my choice) but this is a special week for me and ~~the drunks I hang out with~~ my friends. We've made a pact to attend a bocce-related event every day this week. Last night's Premier League Finals was day one, only three more days to go! Heaven help my poor liver... cirrhosis really isn't that bad, right? RIGHT?

Thankfully (and totally coincidentally) we've added a SPECIAL bocce-related event to the week if you're in the mood for something different... and in the Commonwealth. Washingtonian Magazine, in their infinite wisdom and finesse, is partnering with DC Bocce for their 'Best of' festivities this summer! And the first event on the agenda is a happy hour on the roof deck of Whitlow's on Wilson. We'll be there with a bocce court set up for play... and somebody, Whitlows or Washingtonian, will be providing complimentary snacks and bevvies. The flyer tells me so. The event kicks off at 6:30 and runs through 8:00. Come on out for a little bocce action, and some free stuff! Plus you can buy discounted tickets to their main event in July.

It's not too late for you and your crew to get in on Bocce Week... it will be our secret that you missed Monday ;) You'll make up for it at Whitlow's this Wednesday, no doubt!

Volunteer to Referee Bocce at the DC Special Olympics

DC Bocce will be proudly participating with the DC Special Olympics for a second year. Join me (Rachael Preston) and Columbia Heights Blackshirt Kipp in overseeing the bocce competition for the Special Olympics athletes from 10AM to 2PM on Thursday May 26th at Catholic University. Please send me an email to indicate your interest and I will provide additional details about joining the bocce team.

Having witnessed it first hand, I can attest that the bocce competition is fierce at this event and it's a great way to appreciate how accessible and rewarding bocce can be.

Drink Your Way to Wine Country!

Let's face it... we all play bocce not just for the bocce, but for the drinking too. Fortunately, the drinking is affordable at only $10 a pitcher... but did you know that you can also get rewarded for drinking??!

Enter the Peroni Ticket Contest: for every pitcher of Peroni or Blue Moon you purchase at your sponsor bar*, you'll receive 1 blank ticket.** Write your team name on that ticket and throw it in the bucket.
